AFFORDABLE LIVING

🔺 Rising Taxes Are Hurting Families and Small Businesses

  • Property taxes keep increasing, without corresponding service improvements.
    • Homeowners are paying significantly more due to inflated home pricing and rising taxes.
    • Seniors are squeezed between rising costs, taxes, and limited incomes.
  • Local tax increases are straining small businesses and discouraging growth.
    • Higher assessments and local levies reduce profitability and discourage investment in our community.
  • We need more transparency and accountability in county budgeting
    • Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going—and to have a say in how it’s spent.  Why does the County Board of Supervisors meet during the business day when people are working?

Albemarle families are being asked to do more with less, while local government continues to expand spending. It’s time to take a hard look at how tax dollars are being used, rein in unnecessary expenditures, and ensure that core services—not bureaucracy—are the priority.  Let’s start by freezing tax rates for 2 years.

SAFE COMMUNITIES

🚨 Rising Crime Demands a Smarter Response

  • Increases in property crime and drug-related incidents are alarming
      • Residents in both rural and suburban areas are seeing more break-ins, theft, and drug activity.
    • Be bold in insisting that our government consistently prosecute crimes in our county. There aren’t victimless crimes.
    • We must invest in prevention and community policing
      • Continuing our proactive strategies like youth engagement, mental health response, and neighborhood patrols can reduce crime before it happens.

Albemarle is not immune to the national rise in crime. While other communities are rethinking public safety, we must double down on smart, effective policing that protects families and neighborhoods—while also addressing the root causes of crime.

VIBRANT ECONOMY

đź’Ľ Smarter Economic Development for a Sustainable Future

  • Support businesses of all sizes – small, medium, and large
    • Include Incentives and support for local entrepreneurs, family-run businesses as well as our medium and larger new businesses.
  • Be a bold voice to help the country attract new businesses
    • Albemarle should leverage local talent in welcoming various types of businesses to the County.
    • Accelerate conversion of long-vacant retail and commercial spaces into residential, mixed-use property.

Economic growth should work for Albemarle.
